The Australian Workers Union has stepped up its campaign for mining in Tasmania's Tarkine region.
A petition with more than 6,500 signatures has been handed to the Federal Environment Minister.
A delegation of Tasmanian workers met Tony Burke in Canberra yesterday.
Mr Burke is yet to decide on the future of several mine applications for the region.
The union's Paul Howes says the group's message was clear, but he does not want to rush Mr Burke's decision.
"I think Tony Burke has demonstrated thus far that he also wants a sense of solution to this issue," he said.
"He hasn't baulked to the demands of the Greens party when they've asked for an emergency listing for the region.
"He's been very determined to ensure that he sees the whole region and recognises that north-west Tasmania is a mixed environment."
