AngularJS and Avatar sound like web standard-based Flex substitute candidates
AngularJS (Google-like) and Avatar (Oracle) look like to play in the same field:
* Two Way Data-Binding
* Templating
* MVC
* Plain JavaScript
* Components
* Reusability/extensibility
Up to now, Avatar sounds like vaporware, while at the same time, AngularJS is quite real.
I tend to think that, while Adobe AIR+Flex are out of the radar, it has left a void that different technologies try to fill (see this other post Oracle looks like to offer 2 alternatives to Flex/AIR). As the features listed above are also provided by the Flex programming model, AngularJS and Avatar appear too as solutions to replace Flex while choosing the way of JavaScript and web standards.
Those solutions like AngularJS or Avatar are still not (IMHO) clearly seen as Flex substitutes. But I think it will be more obvious as far as JavaScript evolves, like with the next JavaScript version, ECMAScript.next, as this version is going to include various interesting features, like classes or modules.
